 &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Ces assemblages, fonctionnels ou non, sont autant de tentatives, illustrant la mécanique qui se met en œuvre dans le cheminement vers la résilience et la viabilité.

	Peau noire, Masques blancs 
donne une forme tangible aux
 ravages latents de l’idéologie coloniale qu’a subi&#38;nbsp;le peuple
 antillais 
Cette collection de bancs est fabriquée à partir 
de mélasse et de charbon︎︎︎, un mélange utilisé
 aux Antilles comme costume de carnaval. 
 &#38;nbsp;  &#38;nbsp; L’utilisation de cette matière permet de mettre en lumière les effets du colonialisme et la manière 
dont s’est installée et maintenue une forme de 
préjugé de couleur (colorisme) au sein de la 
population&#38;nbsp;afrocaribéenne.

à défaut de panser», les blessures d’un passé indélébile.

 Elle est une prise de position, un regard cru&#38;nbsp;et alerte et 
sur la réalité de nos conditions, une volonté vive de 
nous (ra)conter.

Apparu pendant la période post-abolitioniste, ce costume incontournable de notre carnaval consiste à s’appliquer sur la peau un mélange de mélasse et de suie. &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Les esclaves récemment affranchis se l’utilisaient pour se
moquer des nouveaux engagés congolais venus, à partir 
de 1848, relancer la production sucrière.
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; En se recouvrant le corps de cette matière, ils leur 
signifiaient qu’ils était plus noirs, sauvages, moins civilisés, et moins éduqués qu’eux, car ils n’avient pas cotoyé le 
modèle blanc.&#38;nbsp;

	Fabriqué à partir d’un mélange de mélasse et de suie (ici du charbon), 
le Mas a kongo utilise des ressources à faible valeur directement issues 
de l’exploitation cannière.
&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Il prend aujourd’hui une symbolique toute différente et permet au peuple antillais qui se l’est réapproprié, de célébrer la diversité de ses racines africaines.

La transformation de ce médium en matière utilisée dans la création d’objets permet l’exploration de thématiques telles que l’héritage culturel ou le préjugé de couleur, encore très présent dans les communautés afrocaribéennes, et plus largement au sein des minorités de couleur.
